The Argument - Poem
67
Sharp words slice through heart’s tender flesh
Sharp words slice through heart’s tender flesh
Anger plunging ever deeper
Serrated bitterness ripping and tearing
Chewing through until it divides
And disembowels the delicate life
And love seeps slowly
Into the scattered filth of what once was
Without a second glance
Love walks away
Trailing through the debris
Leaving behind
Empty foot prints
And only a shadow of beauty
Once strong and clear, now
Fades and struggles . . . for one last gasp

I agree with MIMOMA about feeling the pain in this poem. This was a wonderful painful read. :) Great poem!
Pride makes cowards of us all. We walk away and think that ends it all. then the memories come back to stab us in the heart again and again.
I agree...very true!
Your poetry is as jagged as a bread knife sold on late night infomercials. It has bite to it. So good to see poets who understand the value of words. Thanks for the post.
...so brutally honest and yet such great poetry - which makes it - art!!!!! I'm glad I came over and checked this one out - man oh man - now this is some seriously well chosen words ...

OH MY MS KIM... I felt the pain as I read.. AGAIN, after so long a life time, a painful memory can still dart in and twist the blade just a bit.. I tend to think a divorce is a permanent injury through out a life time..a failure of broken promises, of abuse and anxiety that drains life from something that could have been....eternal..
